Scary Story Writing Center

This month, students in grades 3-5 wrote Scary Stories during library center time. They loved it! Many students asked to bring their library notebooks home with them to continue writing their stories. I was impressed with the quality of the stories and the excitement of our young writers!

Skyping with Author Michael Shoulders

Two Kindergarten classes Skyped with author Michael Shoulders last week. Students in Mrs. Shorter's class and Mrs. Segers' class prepared questions and asked Mr. Shoulders about being an author. We learned so much from this outstanding author!

Global Read Aloud Update

We are finishing up the Global Read Aloud! K-2 grade students have been participating in the Global Read Aloud for the past 5 weeks. Students have been learning about Lauren Castillo during library classes and during art! We received post cards from classes in Maine, South Carolina, Colorado, and Massachusetts. Through the Global Read Aloud, students not only connected with classes across the globe, they were able to learn many important reading skills, including:
- Making personal connections to books
- Author and illustrator roles
- "Reading" details in pictures
- Showing preferences for favorite books and preferences of how to read
